Starbucks knowingly turns away profit
Major coffee conglomerate, Starbucks, is offering up ways on how to save money on customers’ coffee addiction by recommending they buy the coffee from them and brew at home; a much cheaper way to enjoy your cup of joe. They will even go as far as to grind it for you; saving customers even more money by not having to purchase an at-home grinder. So when did the most expensive and lavish coffee shop decide to ask customers to stop coming in and spending money on their flavorful concoctions?
I found this out while stopping into the Starbucks on Lincoln Ave. and Irving Park for my ritual venti passion shaken iced tea. As I stood there in a line of nine customers waiting for my tea to be shaken I saw a sign drawn in colorful eye-catching chalk behind all of the smiley-faced baristas. It said, “Economize. Brew at home. Buy the beans from us and we’ll grind it for you!” I get that starbucks would want to push their coffee-for-home sales, but as an alternative to coming in and spending much more on a prepared cup? Are they trying to drive sales down and go out of business?
I do appreciate the thought. I can’t believe they are thinking about the struggling people of this city; of the world. Maybe that is what they are going for, showing that they care about their customers in order to win them over for the long-run. I mean, aren’t they in direct competition with McDonalds?
